Toru Adachi

Position:
Former Student
Bio:

Toru is interested in atmospheric electricity, aeronomy, and remote sensing techniques. He has engaged in the study of lightning and TLEs coupling processes, airglow structures and perturbations, and development of satellite- and ground-based optical instruments.

Toru is supported under the JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowships for Research Abroad.

Robert Marshall

Position:
Research Associate
E-mail:
ram80@stanford.edu
Bio:

Bob's primary research interest is in the coupling of lightning energy to the upper atmosphere and lower ionosphere, in the form of sprites, elves, and Early VLF events, as well as coupling through the ionosphere and into the magnetosphere as whistler-mode waves. These "whistlers" play an important role in controlling the Earth's radiation belt electron populations. Bob also works with collaborators to study small-scale, high-speed structures in the Aurora, which provide an "ionospheric fingerprint" of wave phenomena in the disturbed magnetosphere during geomagnetic storms.
